WOMENS ARTISTIC COMPETITIVE HEAD COACH

Position Details:
Term of Employment: Permanent Full-time – 1st six months Probationary
Salary: Negotiable commensurate with experience
Week: 40 hours (full-time)

Twisters Gymnastics Club is in Abbotsford, BC. Twisters has been part of the city for decades and has a strong relationship with the community, providing excellence in gymnastics training for recreational, provincial, national, and international athletes.

Twisters Gymnastics is looking for a progressive WAG Head Coach that is willing to build a culture of developing champions in life and in sport, developing first the person, then the athlete, and ultimately the
gymnast. The candidate will share our values of empathy, respect and open and direct communication with athletes, parents, and staff to create a safe and inclusive sport experience at Twisters. The ideal candidate holds the mantra of becoming the best coach they can be by engagement in ongoing, self motivated pursuit of knowledge so that they may impact all athletes and coaches at Twisters. Physically, they will be capable of spotting, and possess a variety of ways to develop skill progression and give feedback to gymnasts in a positive manner.

Twisters Gymnastics needs a personable, pro-active WAG Head Coach with excellent organization skills and a natural ability to work with several different departments, being flexible to handle anything that might come their way. You are a hard-working leader and set high expectations for yourself. You will possess good judgment and conflict-resolution skills and can anticipate potentially challenging situations and address them before they occur. You will be a strong and reliable support to the day-to-day operations. You will be working closely with each of the program heads and the club director to maintain and create procedures, support communication and safety for our members. Not only will your work allow us to achieve organizational efficiency, but you will also foster a pleasant work environment for staff.

This position reports directly to the Club Director and is responsible for the activities of the WAG program including but not limited to coaching, managing, organizing, implementing, and communicating all relevant information to the WAG program members. This position is responsible for preparing the WAG athletes for competition and working within the club’s vision, policies and goals set forth by management.

Qualifications: (Ideal candidates will have)
● NCCP level 4 certified or equivalent
● First aid certification
● Criminal Record Check up to date
● 15 years coaching experience
● Excellent understanding of the FIG code of points and JO program
● Coursework or willingness to learn about Safe Sport, Sport Psychology and Nutrition
● All other required certifications up to date

Job Description and Responsibilities:
● Recruit, supervise and coach WAG athletes while providing a safe, encouraging, and nurturing
environment while maintaining a professional attitude
● Attend all competitions, camps and team activities as required by Employer
● Developing group and individual training plans as needed; organize and maintain class groups
and structures
● Keeping up to date attendance records, ensuring all staff vacations and sick days are covered,
managing staff hours and schedules, holding yearly staff performance reviews, working to
problem solve staff conflict as needed while following Twisters code of ethics and discipline
procedures
● Communicate with parents on class structures and changes, athletes progress, competition
information and any concerns that may arise
● Recruit, develop and train coaches as needed to give our athletes the best competitive advantage
● Communicate and work collaboratively with coaches on program plans and coaching
responsibilities including rotations
● Facilitate regular staff meetings at the Employers’ place of business, monitor staff vacation and
submit meeting minutes and a vacation report monthly to the Club Director
● Manage staff hours as per program needs. Document staff performance and complete annual
staff reviews. Report and discipline as per Code of Conduct and Policy
● Provide mentorship opportunities for coaches under supervision
● Ensure WAG coaches absences are approved and coverage is arranged
● Assist WAG coaches development and coaching skills
● Attending staff meetings, team functions, meeting with parents, making phone calls, working at
fundraising activities and participating in all other gatherings required by the Employer
● Report directly to the Club Director and maintain open communication with the Club Director as
well as attend regular meetings with the Club Director and submit a monthly report
● Maintain a professional relationship with athletes, parents, Twisters staff and customers Work
collaboratively with all staff always maintaining a professional attitude
● Communicate openly with all staff members
● Maintain a professional and open relationship with Club Director, administrators, parents,
athletes, and coaches; communicating all information needed for the smooth operations of
Twisters gym
● Communicate and work as a team with administration to ensure a high level of customer service
● Ensure that the administration is made aware of new registrants or changes to existing athletes in
the competitive program by using the forms provided at the office and update the office on
training hours
● Comply with the Employer’s policies and Code of Conduct and maintain a professional
relationship with staff, athletes, parents, and other the Employer’s customers
● Ensuring the cleanliness and safety of all gym equipment; help with moving equipment when
needed including setting up and put away all gym equipment
● Help with setup and take down of all gym equipment as needed during Agrifair and Twisters
hosted events
● As requested by the Club Director, the Employee shall work weekends and some holidays as
required to supervise the participation of competitive gymnasts in Gymnastics meets within and
outside of British Columbia. In addition, Employee shall be available to travel and assist with, and
to coach the various competitive teams as required of a Competitive Women’s Coach, including,
but not exclusive to Trials to Westerns, Westerns, National Trials, and Nationals
● Employment shall be based on a 40 hour work week, the coach for the women’s competitive
program shall devote approximately 65% of working hours to the direct coaching of competitive
program gymnasts and approximately 35% of work hours to organizational, technical, and
administrative work, this may vary depending upon the needs of the gym
● Obtaining various gymnastics certification as required by the Employer including but not limited to
Safety Certification, Meet Director Certification, Skill Evaluator, first aid or CPR certification
● Any other duties assigned by Club Director
